The UAE Food Bank and Majid Al Futtaim have teamed up this Ramadan to distribute over 3,300 free meals daily, delivering up to 100,000 iftar meals to those who need them the most, with additional distribution of dates and water to commuters on the go.
The UAE Food Bank and Majid Al Futtaim, which operates Carrefour, announced a large-scale partnership to provide daily iftar meals during Ramadan 2025. Together, they aim to distribute over 3,300 meals per day, reaching an overall goal of 100,000 donated meals by the end of the holy month. This effort underlines the UAE’s focus on bolstering food security and community welfare.
Carrefour will supply all meat and grocery essentials needed for meal preparation under the UAE Food Bank’s 1,000 Meals programme. Taya Art Production, affiliated with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development, will manage the cooking process. Additionally, Taya Art Production will produce a Ramadan TV series highlighting meal preparation, repurposing surplus food, and minimising waste—an important objective for both the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour.
Prepared meals will be delivered to workers and those in need at key UAE locations using 'Care Vans' operated by the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour. The vans will also distribute dates and water at busy intersections, bus stops, and metro stations in Dubai, ensuring that commuters can easily break their fast. Volunteers from Carrefour will actively take part, reinforcing the spirit of community involvement throughout the campaign.
Dr. Günther Helm, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, described the scheme as central to the “Unlock the Spirit of Ramadan” initiative, aligning with the UAE’s broader vision of solidarity and volunteerism. By contributing to the UAE Food Bank’s effort to feed those in need, Carrefour underscores its commitment to a sustainable ecosystem of food security, especially during the holy month.
Manal Bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team of the UAE Food Bank, stressed that redistributing surplus food and reducing waste are key priorities for the organisation. By offering over 2,000 daily meals through this partnership, the UAE Food Bank strengthens its mission to cultivate a culture of responsible food management and social unity in the UAE. Initiatives like these echo the nation’s drive to enhance societal welfare and environmental consciousness.
